What it does

Bloom Drum Machine samples iconic hardware drum machines and puts them in the Bloom engine, combining vintage analog drum sounds with experimental textures, a sequencer and effects.

Sample keys: 14 keys with 8 banks holding 112 drum machine samples.
Sequencer: builds patterns with modulation, and five factory modifiers (Half-time, Double-time, Reverse, Octave Down and Octave Up).
Effects: Bitcrush, Dynamics and Reverb (Hall, Plate and Spring), plus four macros: Drive, ModDelay, Static and Lo-Fi.
Editing: waveform editing with pitch, formant and time-stretch controls; Hold, Latch and Relative play modes; forward, backward, pendulum and loop playback.
Presets and import: 250 presets, and drag-and-drop import of your own samples.

When to use it

Bloom Drum Machine is more of a pattern and texture instrument than a drum programmer. It gives less control over individual drum sounds and step patterns than XO and Spark 2, and where Tekno builds drums from synthesis, Bloom Drum Machine uses processed drum machine grooves. It does the same job as its sibling Bloom Drum Breaks, which uses sampled breakbeats instead. Pick Bloom Drum Machine when you want processed vintage drum machine grooves quickly.

Best for: quick drum machine grooves, lo-fi and processed beats, and layering extra percussion over existing drums.
Genres: electronic, house, hip-hop, lo-fi and pop.
Look elsewhere if: you want to build kits sound by sound or program detailed step patterns; XO or Spark 2 are better for that.
Standout: the sequencer with Half-time, Double-time, Reverse and Octave modifiers.
