What it does
Plugin Alliance's E646 VS models the ENGL E646 Victor Smolski Limited Edition head, aimed at modern metal tones from clean to high gain.
- Channels: Clean, Crunch and two Lead channels, each with its own gain and volume.
- Tone shaping: three-band EQ per channel, dual treble controls on Clean and Crunch, a mid-voicing control on the Leads, and a switchable mid boost.
- Power amp and gate: Presence and Depth Punch controls, A/B master volumes and a built-in noise gate.
- Cabinet: speaker simulation using impulse responses.
When to use it
This is a single-amp, single-purpose plugin: a dedicated ENGL metal amp rather than an all-in-one rig like Neural DSP Archetype or Guitar Rig. It's the pick if you specifically want that ENGL voicing.
- Best for: tight, modern high-gain rhythm and lead tones.
- Genres: metal, hard rock, progressive.
- Look elsewhere if: you want a wide choice of amps, pedals and effects in one plugin.
Where to buy
- Plugin Alliance: $50
