It costs $69 on sale (regular $199) and runs in EastWest's Opus player.

Best for: Acoustic Instruments, Keys & Synths, Drums, Guitars, Bass. Genres: all genres.

Keywords: choir, world instruments, guitar instrument, basses, brass, film & game audio, grand piano, mallets, organ, woodwinds, bass instrument, electric piano, harp, harpsichord, leads, pads, risers & hits, strings, subscription, tonewheel organ.

What it does

Goliath is EastWest's all-in-one library: 180 instruments across most styles in one collection, including everything from its predecessor Colossus. EastWest aims it at media composers, songwriters and producers who want to work "without switching libraries."

It runs in EastWest's Opus player or PLAY 6. It is also part of the ComposerCloud+ subscription.

When to use it

Goliath is a ready-to-play sound set for sketching songs and cues with many instrument types from one place. It is closest to SampleTank 4, which also offers a broad workstation-style sound set; Goliath adds General MIDI mapping and more orchestral, choir and world instruments. Compared with Kontakt 8 or HALion 7, it has only basic editing, so it suits loading a patch and playing rather than building your own instruments. Its sounds date from 2008-era sampling, so dedicated libraries such as Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition go much deeper in any single area.

What producers say

Reviewers praised its size and recording quality at launch; the one recent KVR user review is very negative.
