by Dystopian Waves · Multi-FX · Spectral morph and vocoder
Not rated yet
NEUON is a sound-morphing effect that blends the spectral character of a main input with a sidechain source, using a cepstral morpher or a filterbank vocoder.
Separate formant and texture morph controls and four drawable LFOs are included, for $13.99.
Best for: Sound Design, Vocals, Keys & Synths. Genres: Electronic & EDM, Ambient & Cinematic.
Keywords: spectral, vocals, creative, sidechain input, sound design, synths, cinematic, FFT-based, macro controls, mixing, rhythmic, spacious, tempo-synced, visual feedback.
What it does
NEUON is a cross-synthesis effect from Dystopian Waves, described as "a sound morphing plugin" that blends two sounds. You feed it a main signal and a sidechain signal, then morph the spectral character and texture of one into the other.
- Cepstral Morpher: the creative engine, with separate Formant Morph and Texture Morph controls plus a Macro Morph knob that moves both together.
- Filterbank Vocoder: a vocoder-style engine for robotic vocals and rhythmic effects.
- Formant controls: Formant Shift changes formant character without changing pitch, and Lifter sets how strongly the formants are shaped.
- Spectral settings: adjustable FFT size and a selectable frequency range, so the morph can target part of the spectrum.
- Modulation: four independent tempo-synced LFOs with custom curves, each assignable to parameters with its own speed and depth, plus an Envelope Follow control that tracks dynamics.
- Visualizer and presets: an interactive spectral display of the incoming and resulting spectra, 20 factory presets and user preset saving.
Version 1.0.0 (released September 2026). It sells through the developer's Gumroad store at an introductory price until 15 October 2026.

When to use it
NEUON is the better pick when you want two signals to merge rather than one effect chain to process one signal. Compared with Infiltrator 2 or Multipass, it has a much narrower scope, but neither of those does sidechain cross-synthesis. Unlike a classic vocoder, the Cepstral Morpher lets you morph formant and texture separately, and the Filterbank Vocoder covers the classic robot-voice sound in the same plugin.
- Best for: talking synths, vocal and instrument blends, hybrid textures and sound design from two sources.
- Genres: electronic, ambient, experimental and cinematic.
- Look elsewhere if: you want a vocoder with a built-in carrier synth or a broad multi-effect for one signal; Infiltrator 2 or Multipass suit the last case.
