Dualism is a stereo processing and monitoring toolkit from DMG Audio with M/S tools, a full visualisation suite and loudness metering.
It is meant as a final-stage mastering and monitoring tool, and costs about $232 (£175).
Best for: Mastering, Mix Bus. Genres: all genres.
Keywords: visual feedback, metering, mastering, mid/side, broadcast, A/B compare, built-in analyzer, full mix, bus processing, mix bus, post-production, reference & monitoring, spacious, wide.
What it does
Dualism is DMG Audio's "complete toolkit for stereo work": a set of stereo processing tools combined with a large metering and visualisation suite and monitor control.
- Input channel strip: input controls with A/B switching and delay.
- Stereo processing: mid/side encoding and decoding, stereo width control and gain structuring.
- Filters: high-pass filters for the mid and side channels.
- Monitor control: monitor controller functions for checking a mix.
The visualisation side is the larger part:
- Level meters: PPMs and DMG's Bendymeters.
- Spectrum: an FFT analyser with octave, 1/3-octave and 1/12-octave displays, plus 2D and 3D spectrographs.
- Stereo and phase: Lissajous and oscilloscope displays, phase and correlation meters, and a bit scope.
- Loudness: ITU 1770, EBU R128 and ATSC A/85 metering, with short-term loudness history and a histogram.
- Display: full-screen mode and PNG screenshots.
KVR lists version 1.19.

When to use it
Dualism is the better pick when you want deep stereo and loudness analysis in one plugin, with some stereo adjustment on the side. Compared with Ozone Imager or Waves S1 Stereo Imager, its stereo processing is basic, with no multiband width, but its metering goes much further. Compared with NUGEN Stereoizer or bx_stereomaker, it cannot create width from mono sources. It is also expensive for an imager, so it makes most sense if you would otherwise buy a separate metering suite.
- Best for: mastering and post-production work that needs loudness, phase and spectrum checks along with M/S adjustments.
- Genres: any; also broadcast and post.
- Look elsewhere if: you only need to widen or narrow a sound (Ozone Imager is free and simpler) or want to make stereo from mono (bx_stereomaker).
- Tip: Computer Music highlights its A/B switching for quick comparisons, and it can show two analysers at once.
What producers say
Reviewers rate it mainly as a metering suite, with the stereo tools seen as a useful extra.
- Computer Music (via MusicRadar, 2014) called it a "superb signal analysis suite" for high-end mastering and post, praising the excellent metering and "stunning visualisations".
- Criticisms: Computer Music found the stereo tools useful but non-essential and weaker than Mathew Lane's DrMS, noted the non-resizable interface, and asked why there are high-pass but no low-pass filters.
