What it does
Compassion is DMG Audio's dynamics processor. It covers compression, expansion, upward compression and upward expansion in one flexible design, and DMG says it can be set up to behave like almost any compressor.
- Two modes: a Main mode for quick use and an Advanced mode for fine adjustment.
- Extras built in: parallel compression, transient shaping, clip limiting and a linear-phase split EQ for dynamic EQ-style processing.
- Detector: configurable, with mid/side processing.
- Workflow: large waveform and gain-reduction display, knee and response graphs, A/B banks, undo/redo and full preset management.
- Efficiency: low CPU use with optional oversampling; zero latency with some features switched off.

When to use it
Compassion is for engineers who want to design their own compressor response rather than pick a single hardware emulation. Compared with a one-model plugin like FabFilter Pro-C 3's style-based approach, it goes further into routing and topology, and it doubles as an expander, gate and dynamic EQ.
- Best for: mixing and mastering jobs where one dynamics tool has to do compression, expansion and parallel work.
- Look elsewhere if: you want a simple, ready-voiced compressor: its depth means a learning curve. DMG's TrackComp 2 is the more direct choice for hardware-style models.
