Bass XXL by denise

A low-end enhancer that generates harmonics above a chosen bass frequency, so bass and kicks stay audible on earbuds and small speakers.

You set the focus by frequency, root note or MIDI, and the harmonics are blended in parallel with controls for range, slope, pre-delay and mono, plus a low-end spectrogram.

Best for: Bass, Drums, Drum Bus, Mix Bus. Genres: Hip-Hop & Trap, Electronic & EDM, Pop, R&B & Soul.

Keywords: bass, enhancement, built-in analyzer, kick, parallel processing, drums, beginner-friendly, bus processing, simple, synths, 808s, clean, CPU-light, drum bus, full mix, mix bus, mixing, oversampling, percussion, single-band, subtle, wide.

What it does

Bass XXL ("Supersize Your Low End") is Denise Audio's upgrade of Bass XL. It uses a psychoacoustic effect: by generating harmonics above the bass frequency you want to enhance, it makes the brain perceive more low end even where speakers can't reproduce the sub. It is not a sub synth; the harmonics come entirely from your dry track.

It was on sale when checked. Bass XL v1 owners have an upgrade price, and the trial outputs 5 seconds of silence every 60 seconds.

When to use it

Bass XXL uses the same psychoacoustic idea as Waves MaxxBass and Renaissance Bass. Its advantage over them, and over other low-end options like Slate Digital's Infinity Bass and Waves Submarine, is its focus modes: setting a root note or driving it from MIDI keeps the harmonics in key as a bass line moves, and the parallel Boost with a dedicated spectrogram makes it quick to dial in. Pick a sub synth such as Submarine instead if the source has no low end to start with.

What producers say

Reviewers and users find it easy to use and good-sounding, with some noting the effect can be subtle.
