A free sample-player plugin for instruments in the Decent Sampler format (.dspreset and .dslibrary). Many free and paid libraries from Decent Samples and other developers use it.
Sound designers build instruments from WAV or AIFF files and an XML preset file, with knobs, menus, keyswitches, modulators and effects. It runs on Windows, macOS, Linux and iOS.

What it does
Decent Sampler is a free plugin for playing sample libraries built in the Decent Sampler format.
- Library format: instruments are .dspreset/.dslibrary files that pair WAV or AIFF samples with an XML description, documented for developers with boilerplate code.
- Built-in tools: LFOs, envelopes and other modulators, filters, EQ, delay and convolution reverb, and custom interfaces with knobs, menus, buttons, X-Y pads and keyswitches.
Decent Samples sells over 240 libraries for it, and many other developers publish instruments in the format.

When to use it
Install it to play the many free and low-cost libraries made for it, especially intimate acoustic, ambient and experimental instruments. Instrument makers can also use it to publish their own libraries without the cost of the Kontakt Player. For recording, chopping or deep sound design, use a full sampler (TX16Wx, TAL-Sampler, Kontakt).
