What it does
TheStrip is DDMF's channel strip: EQ, gate and compressor in one low-CPU plugin, meant to work like "a high-class mixing console" across many tracks.
- EQ: six bands based on DDMF's 6144 equalizer, made up of low- and high-pass filters plus a four-band parametric EQ.
- Gate: a flexible gate with adjustable attack and release.
- Compressor: a no-nonsense compressor with ratios up to 10:1.
- Order swap: put the EQ before or after the compressor.
- Phase invert: a polarity switch on the channel.
- Oversampling and CPU: internal oversampling is available, and DDMF stresses low CPU use so it can sit on every channel.
Free demos are available.
When to use it
TheStrip is a clean, light strip for putting the basics on every track at a low price. Compared with Scheps Omni Channel or Neutron 5, it has far fewer modules (no de-esser, saturation or assistant), but it is simpler and much cheaper. Unlike bx_console SSL 4000 E or SSL Native Channel Strip 2, it does not model a console, so its character comes mainly from its 6144-based EQ. It also adds a gate and compressor to DDMF's own 6144 EQ, so it is the better buy if you would otherwise want both, and DDMF says its low CPU use lets it run on many channels at once.
- Best for: everyday EQ, gating and compression on individual tracks, especially drums and other sources that need a gate.
- Genres: any.
- Look elsewhere if: you want console colour, a de-esser or saturation in the strip; bx_console SSL 4000 E or Scheps Omni Channel fit better.
