Superplugin is a plugin chainer with a fixed layout: four plugins in series, then a 4x4 multiband block, then four more plugins.
It is DDMF's simpler alternative to Metaplugin and also bridges formats, bit depth and Intel to Apple Silicon, for $59.
Best for: Mix Bus, Mastering, Sound Design. Genres: all genres.
Keywords: multi-band, standalone app, Apple Silicon native, parallel processing, simple, synths, AAX, full mix, bus processing, mastering, MIDI-controllable, mix bus, oversampling, room mics, sound design, utility.
What it does
Superplugin is DDMF's plugin chainer, described as "a complementary plugin to Metaplugin" for building simpler chains quickly. Instead of wiring a routing network, you drop plugins into a fixed structure and Superplugin handles the routing for you.
- Fixed layout: four serial plugin slots, then a 4x4 block of plugins, then four more serial slots.
- Parallel section: the 4x4 block runs either as multiband, using a built-in four-band splitter, or as four fullband parallel chains.
- Drag and drop: plugins are scanned once and then dragged into slots and rearranged; user presets can be shared between DAWs.
- Automation and bypass: up to 100 automatable parameters mapped to the hosted plugins, and a bypass for each plugin.
- Processing: double precision (where the DAW and format allow it), up to 16x realtime and 64x offline oversampling, and full plugin delay compensation. DDMF says the CPU overhead is negligible.
- Bridging: 32/64-bit bridging with the plugin windows integrated, Intel to Apple Silicon bridging on macOS, and VST/AU/AAX wrapping, so a plugin can run in a host that doesn't support its format.
- Standalone: a standalone version plays MIDI-driven synths and effects live, without a DAW.
KVR lists version 1.2.9. The demo is fully functional except that it can't save presets.
When to use it
Superplugin is the quick, structured option among plugin hosts: you get serial chains plus a multiband or parallel block without building the routing yourself. Compared with DDMF's own Metaplugin, it gives up free routing and larger channel counts in exchange for much less setup. Like Kilohearts Multipass, it puts whole effect chains inside frequency bands, but it hosts third-party VST, AU and AAX plugins and can bridge them. Unlike a DAW's built-in effect rack, it can bridge 32-bit and Intel-only plugins and wrap formats, which lets non-AAX plugins run in Pro Tools.
- Best for: multiband processing with your favourite plugins, quick serial chains, running non-AAX plugins in Pro Tools, and playing synths live in standalone mode.
- Genres: any; it is a routing tool.
- Look elsewhere if: you need cross-track routing, mid-side matrices or more than 8 channels; Metaplugin does that.
