ERS 250 is a reverb plugin that recreates the EMT 250, the first digital hardware reverb, from careful study of the original schematics.
It adds a dry/wet control, an extra low-pass filter and an alternative modern circuit option to the original controls, for $69.
Best for: Vocals, Drums, Keys & Synths, Guitars, Mix Bus. Genres: Pop, Rock & Indie, Electronic & EDM, Ambient & Cinematic.
Keywords: digital classic, vintage, modern, drums, vocals, 70s, hardware emulation, keys, metering, bus processing, dark, full mix, mix bus, mixing, snare, warm.
What it does
ERS 250 is a model of the EMT 250, the first digital reverb ever made, of which only 250 units were built. It started as Harrie Munnik's EmptyRoomSystems plugin and is now sold and developed by DDMF, which says it is based on a "careful reproduction of the original schematics".
- Reverb decay: from 0.4 to 5 seconds.
- Low and High Response: shape how long the low and high frequencies ring; Low Response works as a decay multiplier from x0.5 to x2.
- Pre-delay: sets the gap in milliseconds before the reverb starts.
- Low-pass filter and Mix: an extra low-pass slider for darker tones and a dry/wet balance slider, neither on the hardware.
- Vintage/Modern switch: on the back panel, picks the original algorithm or an alternative "modern" schematic that the manual says is richer on melodic instruments.
- Front/Back outputs: choose the front outputs for more early reflections or the back outputs for a more distant sound, with level sliders for left, right, centre and both surround channels.
- Metering and presets: an input meter with a clip warning LED, a REV bypass button and a preset library.

When to use it
ERS 250 is a low-cost way to get the EMT 250 sound, with a few extras the hardware never had. Compared with UA's EMT 250 Classic Electronic Reverb it is cheaper and adds a low-pass filter, a modern algorithm option and front/back output choices. Next to ValhallaVintageVerb it covers just one vintage unit instead of 22 modes, so it is less versatile but more focused. Against FabFilter Pro-R 2 it has far less editing and no visual EQ, which keeps it quick to set but limits fine shaping.
- Best for: warm vintage digital reverb on vocals, drums, snares and keys.
- Genres: pop, rock and electronic music with a 1970s and 80s studio feel, and ambient work.
- Look elsewhere if: you want a modern, highly editable reverb (Pro-R 2) or many vintage flavours in one plugin (ValhallaVintageVerb).
- Tip: switch to the back outputs for a more distant reverb, or to Modern for a richer tail on melodic parts.
