What it does
HATE is a wavetable-based distortion multi-effect from Dawesome, sold through Tracktion. The developer pitches it as covering everything "from subtle warmth to total sonic destruction," with a chain of distortion and character modules after a wavetable shaper.
- Wavetable shaper: the first stage shapes saturation with a wavetable instead of a fixed curve. You can drag in your own audio file to build a custom shape, and Slice, Edge and Warp controls change its character.
- 29 modules: mix and match up to six in a pedalboard-style chain. Among them are Dawesome's own Raspator, Mal-Sync and Atari-Punk, plus Limiter, Compressor, Distort, Crush, Noisify, FM, Delay, Clouds reverb, Chorus, Phaser and OTT.
- Simple front panel: each module shows a dry/wet slider, with a gear icon that opens its deeper parameters.
- Creative Randomizer: randomizes settings for quick ideas; a padlock excludes chosen parameters so they stay put.
- Presets: over 200 presets from professional sound designers, plus expansion packs such as Corrodium (50 presets).
- Automation: every parameter can be automated from the DAW.
It is also sold in a bundle with LOVE 2. A 90-day unlimited trial is available, and a PDF manual can be downloaded.
When to use it
HATE is the better pick when you want distortion as a sound design tool rather than as mix saturation. Compared with Saturn 2, it has no multiband splitting or precise tone matching, but its wavetable shaper and custom audio shapes give tones Saturn's fixed styles don't. Next to Trash, it chains more kinds of effects, from FM and Noisify to delay, reverb and OTT, in one window. It is more of a hands-on effects rack than Decapitator, which is quicker for plain analog-style drive. With a 90-day trial, it is also cheaper than most of those.
- Best for: aggressive drums, distorted basses, mangled synths and building new textures from simple sources.
- Genres: electronic, bass music, industrial, metal, rock and hip-hop.
- Look elsewhere if: you want subtle, analog-style saturation on mix buses; Saturn 2 or Decapitator suit that better.
- Tip: lock the parameters you like with the padlock before using the Randomizer, so it only changes the rest.
What producers say
The few user reviews so far are positive, praising how easy it is to get extreme results.
- Visuals Producer blog (2025) said simply "I love it", praising the ease of use, the Raspator and Mal-Sync modules, the wavetable shaper and the padlock. It reported click-free automation in Logic Pro and no CPU trouble on a 2017 iMac.
- Criticisms: the review named none, and no detailed magazine review was found.
