What it does
Diffuse is a free experimental effect from Daniel Gergely that blends delay, reverb, pitch and modulation into one sound. Instead of setting each effect, you pick a random "seed" and explore it from an XY pad.
- Effects in one: delay, reverse, reverb, freeze, filter, modulation, tremolo, octave and shimmer, combined in a hidden chain.
- Seeds: each seed generates its own set of effects and modulators, so new seeds give new variations.
- XY pad: the main control, moving through the sound on two axes; both X and Y are automatable.
- Shaping controls: animation, intensity, time and warp adjust how the chosen seed moves and how strong it is.
- Timing: up to 2 seconds of delay, with sync to host tempo.
- Workflow: full automation of parameters and built-in tooltips that explain each control.
The current version is 1.1.0. It is free, offered as pay-what-you-want with no minimum.

When to use it
Diffuse is a happy-accident tool for textures rather than a precise multi-effect. Compared with Infiltrator 2 and Effectrix2, it gives no control over the order or settings of each effect; seeds and an XY pad steer a hidden combination instead. That makes it much faster for finding odd ambient sounds, but harder to repeat a specific result. Unlike Transit 2, which is built around transitions and builds, Diffuse is aimed at washes, shimmer and frozen tails, and it costs nothing.
- Best for: ambient textures, shimmer and frozen pads, and unpredictable delay and reverb sound design on synths, guitars and vocals.
- Genres: ambient, cinematic, experimental and electronic.
- Look elsewhere if: you want precise, repeatable control over each effect; Infiltrator 2 or Effectrix2 fit better.
What producers say
Coverage was positive, praising its originality; the trade-off is less hands-on control.
- Bedroom Producers Blog called it "a novel processor capable of some great textures" that reaches ethereal sounds with little effort, though the writer prefers dialling effects by hand.
- Synth Anatomy called it "a very original effects plugin", with results from classic delays and reverbs to granular-sounding effects.
