What it does

Weird Strings is a hybrid strings instrument in Cradle's State Machine series, made with Audio Imperia. It offers "strings from beyond the warp": acoustic string ensembles mixed with hybrid synths and physically modelled tones.

When to use it

Weird Strings is the pick for strange, hybrid string beds rather than a realistic section. Compared with Arturia's Augmented STRINGS, it is cheaper and more preset-driven, with less depth for building your own layered sounds. Against Berlin Strings or BBC Symphony Orchestra Core it is not a playable orchestra at all: no section articulations to perform, just ready-made textures. It works best as a quick source of eerie, warped colour under a score.
