Debuzz
by CEDAR · Restoration · Buzz and hum remover
Not rated yet
Removes buzz and hum with fundamentals up to 500Hz across the whole spectrum, and tracks tones that wander in pitch.
Unlike comb or notch filters, it restores the audio without narrowing the bandwidth or adding a hollow sound.
Best for: Guitars, Bass, Vocals, Acoustic Instruments. Genres: all genres.
Keywords: electric guitar, bass, repair, tracking, corrective, field recordings, mixing, smooth, vocals.
What it does
Debuzz is CEDAR's tool to "eliminate buzz and hum without unwanted artefacts," taken from the CEDAR Studio range.
- Range: handles buzzes and hums with fundamentals as high as 500Hz and can remove components across the entire audio spectrum.
- Tracking: automatically follows 'wandering tone' buzzes whose pitch drifts.
- No comb filtering: avoids the limited bandwidth and hollow sound of traditional filters.
- Sources: tape, digital recordings, electric guitar and other stringed-instrument recordings, post and sampling.
Part of CEDAR's Icons range. It has a 14-day free trial.
When to use it
Pick Debuzz when the buzz is harmonically rich or drifting and you want it gone without the hollowness of stacked notch filters. Like Waves X-Hum and Sonnox Oxford DeBuzzer, it is a dedicated hum remover, while iZotope RX 12 includes De-hum within a larger suite.
- Best for: ground hum and buzz on guitar, bass and DI recordings, location audio and archive tapes.
- Genres: any.
- Look elsewhere if: you only need a simple notch for a steady 50/60Hz hum; cheaper tools or your DAW's EQ may do.
- Standout: tracking of wandering buzzes with fundamentals up to 500Hz.
What producers say
Reviewers found it easy to set up and effective; one WaveLab user hit a playback glitch.
- Sound On Sound (2013): Mike Thornton wrote "I found it very easy to set up" and said "CEDAR's Debuzz module handled them all with ease" without ringing.
- Steinberg Forums user (2025): said the VST3 "works smooth without hitting the CPU too hard."
- Gripe: the same user heard short glitches at clip boundaries with several instances in WaveLab, which did not happen in Nuendo.
Where to buy
- CEDAR: $131.15 (Listed at £99.00 plus tax; converted at £1 = $1.3247 (ECB rates, 29 Sep 2026))
