vst3s Score 8.4/10 · rated #8 of 10 chorus

A chorus and ensemble plugin with 2 to 32 voices, plus a filter, pitch shifting and stereo controls in the same signal path.

It covers classic chorus and natural unison sounds, and with the filter and pitch sections it also makes octave, detuned and glitchy textures for synths, vocals and guitars.

Best for: Vocals, Keys & Synths, Guitars, Sound Design. Genres: Electronic & EDM, Pop, Ambient & Cinematic, Hip-Hop & Trap.

Keywords: chorus, vocals, synths, electric guitar, wide, pitch-shifting, creative, sound design, classic, glitchy, keys, cinematic, enhancement, experimental, mid/side, mixing, organic, spacious, pads, thick, warm.

What it does

Choric is Caelum Audio's multi-voice chorus, built to go from conventional chorus to natural-sounding unison and more unusual modulated textures.

Up to 32 voices: 2–32 voices with Rate, Phase, Depth and a Looseness control that makes the voices less uniform.
Filter: low-pass, band-pass or high-pass on the chorus, with cutoff and resonance.
Pitch: ±12 semitones of pitch shift with formant preservation and a blend amount, for octave and detuned layers.
Stereo: Spread to pan the voices, a channel flip and mid/side widening.
Character: Warm (analog-style saturation) and Dark (high-frequency roll-off) switches, plus 50 presets in Classic, Guitar, Keys, Synth, Vocal and Misc folders.

When to use it

Choric is the most modern-sounding of the rated choruses. The vintage emulations (Chorus JUN-6, TriceraChorus, Brigade) give you a known sound; Choric, like Minimal Audio's Flex Chorus, is a voice-based chorus, but it adds pitch shifting and a resonant filter, so one plugin can do a classic chorus, a wide unison or an octave shimmer.

Best for: synth leads and pads, vocal thickening and backing-vocal width, guitars, and creative sound design.
Genres: electronic, pop, ambient and cinematic, hip-hop and trap.
Look elsewhere if: you just want a classic analog chorus with no tweaking (Chorus JUN-6, TAL-Chorus-LX) or a subtle Dimension-style widener (Chorus DIMENSION-D).

What producers say

It launched in February 2023 and reviews were very positive.

Computer Music gave it 9/10 and a Performance Award, calling it way more than just another chorus plugin (as quoted on Caelum's page).
Attack Magazine (2023) found it creatively inspiring, from traditional choruses to glitchy effects, and good on vocals, synths and drums.
Ask.Audio called it a fantastic modulation plugin, but noted the interface doesn't make it clear when the filter or pitch section is switched off.
