What it does

Snapback is Cableguys' "instant drum layering effect. For beats that hit different." It detects the hits in a drum track and layers new samples on top in time, including the pre-transient "snapback" samples that some producers use for more dynamic grooves.

Two layers: a Transient layer and a Snapback layer, with 200+ layers from BT, Goldbaby, Virtual Riot and Cyclick, plus drag-and-drop import of your own samples.
Layer controls: shift (±4 ms), polarity, volume (+6 dB), width (mono to 200%), pan, dynamics, high- and low-pass filters, attack and decay, pitch (±1 octave) and a reverse button (added in v1.1).
Triggering: three algorithms (Drums, General, Complex), threshold and input filter for selective triggering, or MIDI triggering.
Detail View: phase-aligned editing of the layers against the original hit, plus a transient-aware limiter.
Workflow: presets with cloud sync, solo and bypass toggles, and a resizable 75 to 200% interface with a high-contrast mode.

When to use it

Snapback works like a drum trigger such as XLN Addictive Trigger or SPL DrumXchanger, but is aimed at layering and enhancing hits in a mix rather than replacing acoustic drums. Its pre-transient snapback layer is the main difference. For shaping the existing hit without new samples, it is less simple than a transient shaper such as SPL Transient Designer Plus.

Best for: thickening kicks and snares, adding snap or texture to loops and beats, and layering one-shots without manual editing.
Genres: electronic, hip-hop and trap, and pop production.
Look elsewhere if: you need multi-mic acoustic drum replacement, or you are happy layering samples by hand in your DAW.
Standout: the Snapback layer that plays a sample just before each detected hit.
