What it does
bx_opto is an optical compressor that emulates the light-dependent circuits of classic hardware units.
- Controls: Peak Reduction, Speed (which sets release time) and output gain.
- Sidechain: four sidechain filter types.
- Parallel: a Mix control for parallel compression.
- Intended sources: Brainworx suggests vocals, acoustic guitars and mix buses.

When to use it
A gentle, smooth compressor for sources that need levelling without obvious pumping. It sits in the same family as the LA-2A style compressors in the rated list (Waves CLA-2A, UAD Teletronix LA-2A), with a Mix knob and sidechain filters that hardware lacks. Best for vocals, acoustic guitar, bass and bus glue in pop, singer-songwriter and acoustic music. Compared with the free bx_opto Pedal, a simplified version of the same idea, it is the full version.
