A sample-and-synthesis instrument designed with keyboardist Jordan Rudess. It combines standard, granular and cloud sample engines with synth-style filters, modulation and effects.

What it does
SampleWiz 2 is a sample-and-synthesis instrument conceived by Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater) and built by BLEASS.
- Engines: standard sample playback plus granular and cloud engines; record or import samples, with editing and looping.
- Sound shaping: a multimode filter with overdrive, two LFOs, an assignable envelope, a Motion Sequencer and an arpeggiator.
- Effects: delay and reverb with shimmer.
- Expression: full MPE support (slide and pressure) and touch performance controls on iOS.
- Cross-platform: sounds can be shared between the iOS and desktop versions (the developer mentions AirPlay and iCloud).
When to use it
A good fit for turning a single recording into evolving pads, textures and playable leads, especially with an MPE controller. It's more of a synth built around samples than a chopping tool. For granular work on the desktop, also compare Palindrome 2 and Polygon 2.
