BLEASS Motion EQ

Not rated yet
BLEASS Motion EQ is a 3-band equalizer whose bands can be moved by LFOs for creative tone shaping.
It runs as a VST3, AU or AAX plugin on Windows and macOS for $19.99, with a separate iOS version.
Best for: Keys & Synths, Drums, Sound Design. Genres: Electronic & EDM, Pop.
Keywords: samples & loops, drums, creative, mixing, synths, tempo-synced, AAX, AUv3/iOS, bus processing, metering, multi-band, rhythmic, sound design, pads, static, wide.
What it does
BLEASS Motion EQ is a three-band graphic EQ built for movement rather than correction. Two LFOs can sweep each band's frequency and gain, which the developer pitches as a way to unlock "new realms of tonal creativity".
- Three bands: fader-style bands, each with its own cutoff frequency, adjustable width and a cut/boost range of -60 dB to +24 dB.
- Filter tricks: muting bands turns the EQ into a low-pass, band-pass or high-pass filter, and setting cutoffs close together gives an all-pass effect.
- Two LFOs: LFO A and LFO B can modulate each band's cutoff and cut/boost amount, and can also modulate each other.
- LFO shapes and timing: sine, triangle, saw up and down, square and sample-and-hold, either synced to the DAW (32 bars down to 1/32 note) or free-running from 0.03 to 10 Hz.
- Phase and stereo offset: shift the LFO start point and offset the left and right channels for wider, moving stereo effects.
- Multibus outputs: each band can go to its own output bus, so the plugin works as a three-way crossover; the developer notes only Ableton Live and Bitwig support these multibus outputs.
- Feedback and presets: meters show the LFOs moving, and a preset system is included.
The current version is 1.2.0. A demo download is available.
When to use it
BLEASS Motion EQ is the better pick when you want an EQ that moves on its own in time with the track. Compared with Pro-Q 4 and TDR Nova it is far simpler, with three bands and no surgical or dynamic options, but neither of those has synced LFOs with sample-and-hold or per-band outputs. Unlike TDR VOS SlickEQ, which is a fixed-band mixing EQ, it treats its bands more like moving filters. For animated sweeps it is simpler than ShaperBox 3, which goes much further on modulation and shaping. It is a cheap way to add tempo-synced tone motion.
- Best for: rhythmic filter sweeps, pulsing tone changes and stereo movement on synths, pads, loops and drum buses, plus splitting a sound into three bands to process separately.
- Genres: electronic music, EDM, ambient and pop.
- Look elsewhere if: you need a precise mixing EQ with many bands; Pro-Q 4 or TDR Nova fit better.
