What it does
Type X is an expander that emulates the dbx 1BX, a consumer hi-fi dynamic range expander from 1978.
- Expansion: makes quiet sounds quieter and loud sounds louder, restoring dynamics to compressed material.
- Controls: single-band expansion with adjustable attack and release, and an RMS detector.
- Sidechain: filtered with high-pass and low-pass.
- Oversampling up to 16x, and upgrade discounts for Type A and Type B owners.

When to use it
Type X is a dynamics tool, not a distortion. Use it to bring life back to over-compressed drums, loops and mixes, or to push punch into flat material. It behaves differently from a gate, because it expands gradually.
- Genres: any; especially useful on loud, heavily compressed material.
