Orbita by AudioThing

Orbita is an 8-track drum machine whose patterns come from a Euclidean sequencer, with 36 factory banks from drum machines, acoustic kits and found sounds.

Each track has its own filter and LFO, and it is on sale for $39 (regular $69).

Best for: Drums, Sound Design. Genres: Electronic & EDM, Ambient & Cinematic, Hip-Hop & Trap.

Keywords: drum machine, sequencer, acoustic drums, experimental, randomize, sound design, surgical.

What it does

Orbita is AudioThing's Euclidean drum machine. Instead of drawing steps, you tell each of eight tracks how many hits to spread across its steps, then shift, accent and swing them to build polyrhythms; the developer says it grew from "a small experimental sequencer" reworked over a decade.

Version 1.1 (September 2026; first released in August 2026). The demo has fewer banks, inserts 3 seconds of silence every 2 minutes and can't save. It is currently on sale.

When to use it

Orbita is a rhythm generator first and a sample player second. Compared with XO and Nerve, which are built around step grids and sample browsing, it creates patterns from a few numbers per track, which makes odd-length and interlocking grooves quick to find. Unlike Battery 4, it has no large sample library or deep per-cell editing; its banks are small kits, though you can load your own. Its MIDI output and MIDI file export mean you can also use it to drive XO, Battery 4 or any other drum instrument. On sale it is also much cheaper than those three.
