What it does

B00GA is AudioThing's rhythm and drone generator, made with Hainbach and based on the Hewlett-Packard 8006A Word Generator, a rare piece of logic-testing gear. Its sequencer runs slowly enough to play pulses as rhythm or fast enough to turn them into pitched tones, for "experimental rhythms and tonal textures."

Version 1.0.1 (November 2025). The free demo inserts 3 seconds of silence every 45 seconds and disables saving.

When to use it

B00GA is far from general sound-design synths such as Serum 2, Vital or Phase Plant. Those build any sound you can program; B00GA does one odd thing deeply, turning tiny clicks and pulses into grooves, crackles and drones that blur the line between beat and tone. It is also not a drum machine in the usual sense, with no kit of kicks and snares to program. It works best as a source to jam with and resample, closer to a piece of lab gear than a keyboard synth, and it pairs well with conventional instruments as a texture layer.

What producers say

Early reviews call it inspiring and characterful, with a few wishes about pattern chaining and randomization.
