What it does

Space Station UM282 is Audiority's "faithful simulation" of the Ursa Major Space Station SST-282, a late-1970s echo and reverb unit. Like the original, it builds a stereo reverb from a mono signal using a multi-tap delay line rather than a conventional reverb algorithm.

The current version is 1.5.3 (May 2026). A demo is available; in demo mode the plugin outputs 3 seconds of silence every minute.

When to use it

Space Station UM282 is older and rougher than the rated VintageVerb and Relab LX480, which recreate the smoother digital reverbs of the 1980s, and Supermassive, which builds huge modern spaces. Its reverb comes from delay taps, so it sounds metallic, grainy and band-limited rather than lush. That makes it as much a creative echo as a reverb, with comb filters and delay clusters that suit sound design. It also adds colour and some grit to whatever passes through it. Pick it for character and texture, not for natural space.

What producers say

Reviewed favourably for its character and presets; the main caveats are the number of controls and the colouration it adds.
