What it does

Space Age 555 is Audiority's "faithful tape echo simulation" of the Roland RE-501 / SRE-555 Chorus Echo, a later Roland machine than the RE-201 Space Echo. It puts tape echo, spring reverb and BBD chorus in one unit, and keeps the original's fake stereo mode, which splits the sections between the left and right outputs.

The current version is 1.0.3 (November 2025). A demo is available; in demo mode the plugin outputs 3 seconds of silence every minute.

When to use it

Space Age 555 targets the later Roland RE-501/SRE-555, not the RE-201 modelled by Universal Audio's Galaxy Tape Echo and Arturia's Delay TAPE-201, the rated examples. So the extra BBD chorus and the fake stereo split are part of its sound, not add-ons. EchoBoy covers far more ground than Space Age 555, with 30 echo styles and rhythm modes, but it does not try to be one specific machine. Galaxy has been more widely reviewed as a recreation of its machine than Space Age 555 has. Choose Space Age 555 when you want one vintage box that does echo, chorus and spring reverb together.
