What it does
Solidus Randy 250 is Audiority's analog-modeled simulation of two Randall solid state amps: the late-80s RG100ES, which shaped classic metal tones, and the late-2000s RH150, which has much more gain. The developer describes both as having "huge low end and crushing gain".
- RG amp: two channels, Green and Red, with an overdrive boost.
- RH amp: two channels, Clean and Overdrive, with a clean boost and dual gain on the Overdrive channel.
- Noise gate: in front of the amp, to keep high-gain rhythm parts tight.
- Wild Drive: a modern overdrive pedal model, for tightening and pushing the amp.
- EQ Duo: a 6-band graphic EQ plus a 3-band parametric EQ before the amp.
- Post EQ: a 5-band equalizer after the amp.
- Dual cabinet simulator: two cab slots with built-in impulse responses from Dr Bonkers Sound Lab, Eddie Scharr, Redwirez and Seacow Cabs.
- Standalone and interface: runs as a standalone app as well as a plugin, with a resizable interface.
A demo is available; in demo mode the plugin outputs 3 seconds of silence every minute.

When to use it
Solidus Randy 250 covers the tight, dry, solid state Randall tone heard on many 80s and 90s metal records, a niche the rated amp sims do not focus on. Unlike those, which are mostly tube rigs (Archetype: Nolly X and Gojira X are full Neural DSP signal chains, AmpliTube 5 MAX and Guitar Rig 7 Pro offer huge collections, and NAM or TONEX MAX load captured amps), it is a pair of amps with a gate, a drive and two EQ stages, so it is quick to dial in and much cheaper than a full suite. The trade-off is range: there are no effects, and it is not built for clean or vintage tones.
- Best for: thrash, groove and 90s metal rhythm guitar, and high-gain tones with a big low end.
- Genres: metal and hard rock.
- Look elsewhere if: you want tube amp feel, clean tones or built-in effects; an Archetype plugin, AmpliTube 5 MAX or Guitar Rig 7 Pro cover more. For the early-90s Marshall solid state sound, Audiority's Solidus VS8100 is the sibling.
