What it does
Electric Matter is Audiority's "Vintage BBD Flanger / Filter Matrix" plugin, modeled on the Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Electric Mistress, a late-70s pedal built around a Reticon SAD1024 bucket-brigade chip. Audiority says it keeps the Deluxe model's wider range of settings while fixing the "tone sucking" and volume drop of the hardware.
- Flanger controls: Color, Range and Rate, the three knobs of the original pedal.
- Filter Matrix: stops the sweep so you can park the comb filter at a fixed position and use it as a tone shaper.
- Modes: a through-zero mode and a vintage mode, alongside the standard flanger sound.
- Tempo sync and stereo: sync the sweep to the host tempo and widen the effect with Stereo Spread.
- Gain staging: pre and post gain, a mix control and a resizable interface.
The current version is 1.3 (February 2024; first released April 2022). A demo is available; in demo mode the plugin outputs 3 seconds of silence every minute.

When to use it
Electric Matter is the pick for the soft, shimmering Electric Mistress sound and for static comb-filter tones. Compared with Instant Flanger Mk II, it is a pedal emulation with three main knobs rather than a studio flanger with deeper control. Its Filter Matrix mode gives a fixed comb-filter colour that most flangers are not built around. Compared with PhaseMistress or MicroShift, it is a true BBD flanger rather than a phaser or a pitch-shift widener. It also adds what the pedal lacked: tempo sync, stereo spread and a fix for the hardware's volume drop.
- Best for: subtle shimmer and slow sweeps on clean guitars, synths and drums, and fixed comb-filter tones via the Filter Matrix.
- Genres: rock, indie, shoegaze, psychedelic and electronic music.
- Look elsewhere if: you want a phaser (PhaseMistress) or deep modulation shaping and routing (ShaperBox 3).
What producers say
There is only one user review so far, and it is fully positive about how close it gets to the pedal.
- KVR users rate it 5 out of 5 from 1 review (version 1.3, 2025), saying "the sound is the same of vintage pedal".
- Use: the same reviewer found it especially well suited to electric guitar.
