PhaseThree by Audio Damage

PhaseThree is a digital model of the MuTron Bi-Phase dual phaser, with both channels, the vactrol response and the LFO sweep modeled.

It adds a 12-stage option per channel and models the expression pedal as an assignable parameter, for $29.

Best for: Guitars, Keys & Synths, Drums, Sound Design. Genres: Rock & Indie, Electronic & EDM, Jazz, Acoustic & Classical, R&B & Soul.

Keywords: phaser, drums, keys, synths, hardware emulation, electric guitar, resizable UI, 70s, AUv3/iOS, classic, deep, extreme, mixing, modulation matrix, modern, sound design, pads, vintage, wide.

What it does

PhaseThree is Audio Damage's model of the Mu-Tron Bi-Phase, which the developer calls "one of the most coveted phaser units ever made". The team analysed an original unit's LFO sweep and vactrol response, then added a 12-stage option and tamed some of the hardware's more extreme behaviour.

PhaseThree launched in 2018. The demo is fully working for 20 minutes at a time and cannot save.

When to use it

PhaseThree is the pick for that one classic dual-phaser sound at a low price. Compared with Arturia's Phaser BI-TRON, which models the same Mu-Tron unit, it is cheaper and adds the 12-stage option. PhaseMistress is broader, with many phaser styles and more ways to shape the sweep, while PhaseThree stays focused on the Bi-Phase. Unlike modulation multi-tools such as ShaperBox 3 or Portal, it does one effect only, which keeps it quick to set up.

What producers say

There are few in-depth reviews; roundups treat it as a faithful Bi-Phase recreation.
