1A Equalizer is Audified's tube equalizer based on the 1950s Pultec program EQ, with the classic boost-and-attenuate controls.

What it does

1A Equalizer is Audified's tube EQ based on the 1950s Pultec program equalizer, combining the vintage schematic with modern features. Audified bills it as a "tube based EQ for all the use cases you ever think of".

Low end: boost and attenuation controls for the low band, in the style of the original unit.
High end: boost and attenuation controls for the highs.
Boost-and-attenuate trick: boosting and cutting the same low band at once, the classic Pultec move for a fuller, louder-sounding bottom end.
Tube saturation: calibrated saturation, so you can choose how much tube colour you add.
THD meter: a Total Harmonic Distortion meter that shows how much distortion the saturation is adding.
Mid/side: switchable L/R and M/S modes with linkable parameters, for treating the centre and sides separately.

When to use it

1A Equalizer is a Pultec-style EQ for people who want to see and control the saturation they add. Compared with the Pultec Passive EQ Collection and Waves' PuigTec EQs, it adds a THD meter and switchable mid/side processing, which make it easier to use on the mix bus or to shape just the sides of a mix. It does not include the companion mid-range units that those bundles offer, so it is a single-tool buy rather than a collection. Like the originals, it is a broad tone-shaping EQ, not a surgical one, so it does not replace Pro-Q 4 or TDR Nova.

Best for: broad low-end and air boosts on the mix bus, bass, kick and vocals, and adding measured tube colour.
Genres: general purpose.
Look elsewhere if: you need surgical or dynamic EQ (Pro-Q 4 or TDR Nova), or a Pultec bundle with the mid-range units (the Pultec Passive EQ Collection).
