What it does
Couture is Auburn Sounds' dynamics plugin, billed as "dynamics-preserving distortion and transient shaper." It sharpens or softens the attacks of a sound and can add saturation without flattening the dynamics.
- Detector: a 2-band, half-spectral, RMS, program-dependent detector finds each transient, with no internal thresholds to set.
- Volume-independent: the result does not change with input gain, including the saturation stage, so you can change levels without re-tuning.
- Sharpen and sustain: turn attacks up for punch or down to tame them; the developer lists uses such as removing the click from a kick sample and de-essing the start of vocal notes.
- Saturation: a distortion section that adds the same harmonic content to loud and soft signals; it is disabled in the free edition.
- Bus use: can make a whole bus more or less dynamic, or add light glue with compression-like control and saturation.

When to use it
Couture is a transient shaper, like SPL Transient Designer Plus, Kilohearts Transient Shaper and Waves Smack Attack. Pick it over them when you want threshold-free transient control plus a saturation stage in one low-cost plugin, or need a free edition. SPL Transient Designer Plus and Smack Attack give more direct control over attack and sustain shapes and envelopes than Couture.
- Best for: adding punch to individual drums and percussion, taming clicky kicks, and changing the room sound in drum recordings.
- Genres: any style; drums in rock, pop, hip-hop and electronic music benefit most.
- Look elsewhere if: you want multiband transient control or detailed envelope editing.
- Standout: saturation that is volume-independent, so drive does not squash the dynamics you just shaped.

Users and reviewers praise its sound on drums and its value; the main caution is about how it behaves on a full mix.
- KVR users rated it 5/5 in all three reviews (2020 to 2025); one called it a "Great shaper for drums and especially percussions" (2021), another liked being able to "add saturation and shape transients in single plugin" (2020).
