Vocoder V by Arturia

A 16-band vocoder modeled on the Moog 16 Channel Vocoder, with its own dual-oscillator synth and sample player as the carrier.

A patchbay reroutes the 16 bands, and 11 effects and a modulation section with 30 destinations take it past classic robot voices.

Best for: Vocals, Keys & Synths, Sound Design. Genres: Electronic & EDM, Pop, Hip-Hop & Trap, R&B & Soul.

Keywords: synths, vocals, samples & loops, keys, analog-sounding, classic, drums, experimental, hardware emulation, mixing, preset-driven, rhythmic, sound design, choir, pads, wide.

What it does

Vocoder V is Arturia's vocoder instrument, pitched as the "Ultimate voice electrifier." It is based on Moog's 16 Channel Vocoder and uses Arturia's TAE analog modeling for the filter bank, with a built-in synth and sampler so you only need to feed it a voice.

It is also part of V Collection.

When to use it

Vocoder V is the pick when you want a Moog-style vocoder with its own synth and sampler already inside, so you can play it straight from a keyboard with a mic or vocal track as the modulator. Unlike Softube Vocoder and Zynaptiq ORANGE VOCODER IV, which work as effects that can vocode any carrier you route in, it brings its own carrier. It is not as simple or low-cost as TAL-Vocoder, and where Waves OVox focuses on vocal resynthesis and harmonies, Vocoder V is a vocoder you play from a keyboard.

What producers say

Reviewers liked the sound and flexibility; the main complaint is that the carrier must be its internal synth or sampler.
