What it does
Tape MELLO-FI is a lo-fi tape effect inspired by the tape mechanism of the Mellotron keyboard.
- Preamp: drive, tone, boost and noise controls.
- Tape: flutter, wow, wear and mechanics, plus an interactive tape wheel with tempo-synced tape stop from 8 bars down to 1/4 bar.
- Filter and width: a 12 dB low-pass or high-pass filter and stereo width enhancement.
- Presets: 25, for keys, vocals and other lo-fi uses.
It is in both FX Collection Pro and Intro.
When to use it
Tape MELLO-FI is about degradation more than warmth: wobbly pitch, noise and wear rather than the smooth saturation of Tape J-37. It is a quick way to give keys, samples and vocals an old-tape feel.
- Best for: keys, samples, drum loops and vocals where wobble and grit are the point.
- Genres: lo-fi hip-hop, chillwave, ambient, indie and psychedelic.
