What it does
Tape J-37 emulates the Studer J37, the tube-driven tape machine used on records by The Beatles and Pink Floyd. Arturia says it combines virtual analog modelling with machine learning.
- Tape types: four tape colours from clean SM911 to gritty, aged SM468, plus a Modern mode.
- Drive: input drive with automatic gain compensation, and two tape speeds that change brightness and warmth.
- Metering: a VU meter showing level and THD, plus a play/stop control for tape-stop effects.
- Advanced panel: EQ, delay, noise and instability, plus a stereo offset control; 25 presets.
It is in FX Collection Pro.
When to use it
Tape J-37 covers a similar job to Waves Abbey Road J37 Tape, with a full advanced panel and tape-stop effect on top. Choose it for soft compression and warmth on tracks and buses.
- Best for: drums, vocals, mix buses and synths that need glue and warmth.
