What it does
Pre 1973 emulates the Neve 1073 preamp and EQ, using Arturia's TAE analog modelling.
- Preamp: 60 dB of continuous input gain, with harmonic distortion as it is pushed.
- EQ: three bands: low shelf (35 to 220 Hz), midrange bell (360 Hz to 7.2 kHz) and high shelf (12 kHz).
- Filter: 18 dB/octave high-pass, 50 to 300 Hz.
- Transformers: two switchable output voicings, Carnill and Marinair.
- Stereo: link, dual mono and mid/side modes, with output trim and a VU meter.
It is in FX Collection Pro.
When to use it
Pre 1973 gives a Neve-style preamp and EQ channel strip in one plugin. Unlike the rated EQ list, which is mostly surgical or Pultec-style, this is more about weight and colour on the way in, similar to what a hardware 1073 does on a mic.
- Best for: vocals, drums, bass, guitars and acoustic instruments.
- Genres: rock, pop, soul and hip-hop. It fits anything that needs body and midrange presence.
