Jup-8 V is Arturia's component-level model of the 1981 Roland Jupiter-8, with 16 voices and free-running oscillators.
It adds dual 32-step sequencers, voice dispersion, expanded modulation and effects to the classic polysynth.
Best for: Keys & Synths, Bass, Sound Design. Genres: Electronic & EDM, Pop, Ambient & Cinematic.
Keywords: polyphonic, hardware emulation, 80s, analog, sequencer, arpeggiator, component-modelled, classic, brass, cinematic, circuit-modelled, leads, pads, sound design, subtractive, vintage.
What it does
Jup-8 V recreates the Roland Jupiter-8, which Arturia calls "The analog vanguard," using its TAE modeling at the component level.
- Voices: 16 voices of polyphony with free-running oscillator phase, four voice dispersion modes, and Classic and Mono unison.
- Oscillators and filters: VCO cross-modulation with assignable sync, and a low-pass VCF plus a high-pass filter.
- Modulation: twin ADSR envelopes, two complex LFOs and a modulation mixer.
- Sequencing: an arpeggiator and dual 32-step sequencers for notes and modulation.
- Effects and presets: three effect slots with 11 effects and more than 300 factory presets.
When to use it
Jup-8 V emulates the Jupiter-8, like TAL-J-8, where Spitfire Audio's Jupiter by Trevor Horn offers sampled Jupiter sounds. Jup-8 V is the pick if you want the Jupiter-8 with a built-in sequencer, macro controls and effects in Arturia's ecosystem.
- Best for: big analog pads, brass, arpeggios and 1980s poly leads.
- Genres: synth-pop, electronic, synthwave and film scores.
- Look elsewhere if: you rely on split and dual keyboard modes; version 4 dropped them.
- Standout: free-running oscillators and voice dispersion for a lively, analog-style ensemble.
What producers say
Sound On Sound found version 4 far better than version 3 but missed features from earlier versions.
- Sound On Sound (2021) said "V4 sounds so much better than V3 as to make such comparisons pointless."
- Sound On Sound (2022) referred to "the excellent new oscillator technology developed for the Jup‑8 V4."
- Gripe: "V4 lacks the Split and Dual modes of its predecessors," and V3 patches must be reprogrammed.
