What it does
Dist OPAMP-21 is based on the Tech 21 SansAmp, the 1989 "amp in a box" pedal.
- Controls: Drive, Presence and High, with four preamp modes: Modern, Normal, Lead and Bass.
- Character switches: eight, including Mid Boost 1 and 2, Low Drive, Clean Amp, Bright, Vintage Tubes, Speaker Edge and Close Mikin.
- Signal path: pre-drive high- and low-pass filters, a three-band output EQ with visualiser, dry/wet blend and two oversampling modes.
- Stereo: L-R, Mid or Side modes.
When to use it
This is a preamp and amp-tone distortion rather than a general fuzz box, so it sits apart from multi-mode tools like Saturn 2. Compared with Arturia's Dist COLDFIRE, it aims at amp-and-cab flavoured grit.
- Best for: bass DI, guitars without an amp and synths that need amp-like bite.
