Clavinet V
by Arturia · Keys · Physically modeled clavinet
Not rated yet
A physically modeled Hohner Clavinet with no samples, including the mute bar, pickup positions and four-band tone switches.
A modeled Fender Twin amp with spring reverb, a reorderable chain of effects such as wah and phaser, and deep editing of harmonics and hammer hardness complete it.
Best for: Keys & Synths. Genres: R&B & Soul, Rock & Indie, Pop, Jazz, Acoustic & Classical.
Keywords: physical modelling, hardware emulation, 70s, advanced, deep, vintage.
What it does
Clavinet V is Arturia's model of the Hohner Clavinet, called a "Physical funk machine." It uses physical modeling rather than samples, so the strings, pickups and mute bar respond continuously to how you play and edit.
- Modeled instrument: Hohner Clavinet emulation with mute bar and accurate pickup modeling, and the four-band tone circuit (brilliant, treble, medium, soft).
- Amp: a Fender Twin simulation with modeled spring reverb, tone controls and mono vibrato.
- Effects: wah, auto-wah, flanger, phaser, compressor, chorus, analog delay, overdrive and vocal filter in a reorderable chain.
- Advanced editing: harmonic profiles, a velocity curve editor, string resonance and hammer hardness.
- Presets: 74 factory presets and MIDI mapping.
It is also part of V Collection.
When to use it
Clavinet V is the pick when you want a modeled clavinet you can reshape at the level of strings and hammers, with an amp and effects chain built in. Like Waves Clavinet, it is a dedicated clavinet plugin, and where Spectrasonics Keyscape includes a clavinet among its large sampled keyboard collection, Clavinet V is modeled.
- Best for: funky rhythm parts, wah clav riffs and percussive keyboard lines.
- Genres: funk, soul, R&B, rock and jazz fusion.
- Look elsewhere if: you want a broad library of many keyboards in one plugin; Keyscape covers more instruments.
- Standout: physical modeling editing, such as hammer hardness and harmonic profiles, that samples cannot offer.
What producers say
Reviewers note the physical modeling and the editing it allows beyond the original instrument.
- MusicRadar / Computer Music (2018) reviewing V Collection 6, noted it uses physical modeling rather than samples and adds editing controls the original lacked, calling it "Deep and powerful."
