What it does

ZHEGA is Antelope Audio's tube-style distortion and saturation plugin, built to cover "subtle warmth to extreme fuzz" with tone shaping before and after the drive stage.

Five circuit modes: analog-inspired saturation circuits, each with its own dynamic response and harmonic colour.
Drive and Bias: Drive sets how hard the signal hits the saturation stage; Bias changes the waveform's symmetry to shift the harmonic balance.
Dual 4-band EQ: one EQ before and one after the saturation, so you can choose what gets driven and then shape the result.
Cabinet simulation: a built-in IR-based cabinet, switched on with one click, for guitar-style tone on any source.
Dry/Wet: phase-accurate blending for parallel saturation.
AutoGain: lowers the output as Drive goes up, so comparisons stay level-matched.

Version 2.1.0 needs no Antelope hardware. A 14-day free trial is available, and it is also included in the Antelope Cosmos subscription. Older store listings describe an earlier layout with three tube bias modes and a single tone knob.

When to use it

ZHEGA is a tube saturator with more tone shaping than most: pre- and post-drive EQs and a cabinet stage make it as useful on guitars and bass as on drums and buses. Compared with Decapitator, it has fewer distinct hardware flavours but more EQ control around the drive. Next to Saturation Knob, a free single-knob saturator, it is far more flexible. Unlike RC-20 Retro Color, it focuses on drive and harmonics and has no noise, wobble or lo-fi effects. Through the Cosmos subscription it is easier to justify than at its list price.

Best for: warmth and punch on drums, bass and guitars, gritty synths, and parallel bus saturation.
Genres: rock, hip-hop, electronic and lo-fi.
Look elsewhere if: you want ready-made presets and classic hardware styles (Decapitator), a quick one-knob fix (Saturation Knob), or vintage noise and wobble (RC-20 Retro Color).
