What it does

BAE-1023 is Antelope Audio's model of the BAE 1023, a British console-style EQ that extends the 1073 with more mid and high frequency choices. Antelope pitches it as "even deeper control over the mid and high-frequency range", including modeled hand-wired Carnhill transformers.

Version 1.0 needs no Antelope hardware. A Synergy Core real-time version for zero-latency use on compatible Antelope interfaces is included. Antelope's page points to a free trial through its Cosmos bundle of 75+ plugins.

When to use it

BAE-1023 is the better pick when you like the 1073-style console sound but want more places to put the mid band, including upper mids and highs up to 10 kHz. Compared with Pro-Q 4 and TDR Nova, it is a stepped, colored EQ with fixed frequencies, so it is quicker for broad tone shaping but cannot do precise notches, dynamic bands or analysis. Unlike the Pultec Passive EQ Collection, which works with wide passive curves and boost-and-cut tricks, it gives a punchier active console sound and a steep high-pass filter.
