What it does

Vocodist is a vocoder with AutoTune pitch correction built in, which Antares calls the only vocoder plugin with AutoTune inside.

Vocoder: models of classic vocoders with an 8-voice dual-oscillator synthesizer.
Playing: controlled from a MIDI keyboard.
Effects: tube saturation, chorus and ring modulation.
Extras: artist presets from Buddy Ross and P-Thugg; ARA support.

When to use it

Vocodist is aimed at robotic-vocal sounds in electronic and dance music. The built-in pitch correction means you can tune the voice before it hits the vocoder. Unlike Articulator, the talkbox alternative from the same developer, it is a vocoder.
