What it does

Ample Slide Lapsteel samples a 1970s Jedson lap steel, a David Gilmour custom model. It is built around "a slide system specifically designed for Slide Guitars", so glides, quarter slides and bar vibrato come out smooth instead of stepping from fret to fret.

When to use it

Ample Slide Lapsteel does a different job from Heavier7Strings, the rated guitar instrument in this category on the site, a seven-string built for metal riffs: it plays the continuous pitch of a steel bar on strings, with quarter slides and legato vibrato that a fretted guitar patch can't give you. Its built-in amp heads take it from a clean 65 Twang tone to driven Lead 800 sounds, so you can get a finished lead tone inside the plugin. It is a specialist instrument rather than a general guitar, and is best bought for slide parts you would otherwise have to hire a player for.
