What it does

Ample Bass Upright is Ample Sound's sampled upright (double) bass, played fingerstyle and built for jazz-style plucked lines. The developer calls the instrument "one of the most iconic and soulful instruments in jazz music."

The product page names its tools as version 4 (Riffer 4, Tab Reader 4) but gives no plugin version number.

When to use it

Ample Bass Upright is the pick when you want to program realistic plucked upright lines quickly, since Riffer and Guitar Pro import let you write or paste walking bass parts with fingering intact. Compared with Trilian, it is a single dedicated upright with far more articulation and mic control for that one instrument, but none of Trilian's electric and synth basses. Unlike SWAM Double Bass, which is modelled and can be bowed, it is sampled and plucked only, which gives it a natural recorded tone but less continuous expression.

What producers say

Reviewers rate its sound and control highly, with the lack of bowing the main limit.
