What it does

Ample Bass TR6 is a sampled six-string bass based on Yamaha's TRBJP2, the John Patitucci signature model. Ample pitches it on "an extensive range of realistic articulations" plus its MIDI writing tools.

When to use it

Ample Bass TR6 samples one specific six-string in depth, with tab import and Ample's Riffer for writing lines, where MODO BASS 2 physically models a range of basses, including extended-range ones, and Trilian combines acoustic, electric and synth basses in one instrument. Six-string options are scarce, and its slap, tap, mordent and arpeggio articulations suit chordal and fusion playing. Users on VI-Control found it warmer and less synthetic than MODO, but some felt it lacks finger attack and the Patitucci tone its source suggests.

What producers say

Early buyers liked the sound, but later users on VI-Control were more mixed about its attack and presets.
