What it does
3D Panner is Almudio's binaural spatial audio plugin. It uses HRTF processing to place sounds around the listener on ordinary headphones, with no surround system needed.
- Positioning: drag a source on a virtual sphere for direction, distance and elevation; 20 measured HRTF head options.
- Frequency Split: up to 8 bands, each with its own position and limiter.
- Movement: 8 LFO shapes with host sync, plus custom drawable paths.
- Details: Includes a standalone app, which can process live input or audio files and record to WAV. Version 2.0.3, with updates included.
- It needs headphones to hear the 3D effect.
When to use it
3D Panner is a low-cost way to move sounds outside the normal stereo image on headphones. Splitting a source into bands and moving each separately gives more movement than a plain panner or width control.
- Best for: sound design, ambient and cinematic music, ASMR, podcasts and VR audio.
- Look elsewhere if: you need a mix that translates on speakers; binaural placement is designed for headphones.
