Tape Double Track by AIR Music Technology

Tape emulation plugin from AIR Music Technology that recreates tape-based double tracking.

Best for: Vocals, Guitars. Genres: Rock & Indie, Pop.

Keywords: tape, tracking, vocals, 60s, electric guitar, hardware emulation, simple, wide, mixing, mono-compatible, single-band.

What it does

Tape Double Track is AIR Music Technology's take on 1960s tape double tracking, in which a performance was run through multiple tape machines to create natural pitch and timing differences.

Varispeed: sets the movement and delay between the two "tapes".
Warp: manual mode for simple delays, or auto mode for tape-style pitch drift.
Channels: separate controls for the source and doubled channels (pan, drive, phase, level, mute), a Bass Mono option to avoid low-end phasing, and Randomize Heads for variation.
Availability: A 10-day trial is offered.

When to use it

Tape Double Track suits vocals, guitars and synths that need widening or thickening with a slightly imperfect, vintage double instead of a copy. It is a simpler and more focused route to the classic ADT sound than a generic chorus or tape delay.

Best for: double-tracking vocals and leads, widening guitars, and 60s-style production.
Genres: psychedelic, rock, pop and lo-fi.
