What it does

Flavor Pro is AIR Music Technology's flagship lo-fi processor for samples, loops, melodies and instruments. It stacks six modules modelled on worn tape, vinyl and vintage samplers, and the developer frames it as a "future/retro" effect for modern lo-fi production.

Wobble and Flutter: pitch movement modelled on degraded tape machines and record players, with rate, fast/slow speed, drift, stereo width, X modulation and mix.
Saturation and Distortion: nine models covering tube, speaker, vinyl and synth flavours, with high- and low-pass filters and mix.
Sample and bit-rate reduction: bit crushing and downsampling aimed at the sound of old Akai MPC and S-series samplers, with smooth, glitch, length and envelope controls.
Vinyl noise: separate crackle, clicks, pops, hum, rumble and noise levels.
Tape drift and dropouts: reel-to-reel style drift and level dropouts, with speed, width and mix.
Lo-fi EQ: 32 EQ profiles, from radio resistors to gramophone and boombox voicings.
Master and Vary: a master Intensity control, output gain, high- and low-pass filters and stereo width; most modules also have a Vary control for randomised variation. 100 presets are included.

When to use it

Flavor Pro follows a similar module-per-artefact layout to XLN Audio's RC-20 Retro Color, the best-known plugin in this space. Its edge is in detail: nine saturation models, 32 EQ profiles and a sampler-style bit crusher give more options than most lo-fi tools. It is less quick than Baby Audio's Super VHS, the macro-driven alternative for instant tape and VHS character, and Kilohearts Multipass suits those who want to build their own chains instead. Flavor Pro's MPC and Force support makes it a natural pick for Akai hardware users.

Best for: aging samples, loops and keys with wow, flutter, crackle and crunch.
Genres: lo-fi hip-hop, boom bap, trap and chillhop.
Look elsewhere if: you want the most established lo-fi tool (RC-20 Retro Color) or one-knob speed (Super VHS).
