What it does

Ocean is Acustica Audio's multiband dynamics and saturation plugin, built to make multiband processing simple. The developer's CEO describes it as "simple, perhaps even simpler" than other multiband tools, with few, powerful parameters, and says it can compress while keeping the transients.

It runs on Core 19, with up to 4x oversampling and a ZL zero-latency version for tracking. The shop page did not show trial details when it was read.

When to use it

Ocean splits the signal into four bands, unlike most rated compressors, which are single-band: Pro-C 3 and TDR Kotelnikov are clean and precise, and The Glue and SSL G-Master Buss Compressor are bus glue units. It also adds sampled analog color and saturation, so it does both dynamics control and tone shaping. Compared with a detailed multiband like Pro-MB, it hides most of the band settings behind two main knobs, which is faster but less transparent. It costs more CPU than most single-band compressors and takes time to learn.

What producers say

Ocean is seen as a strong-sounding but demanding tool: Audio Plugin Guy rated it 4 out of 5.
