Nox is a hybrid synthesizer for EDM and melodic techno, built on the Alice9 architecture with time-evolving SCO oscillators and a central Morph control.

What it does

Nox is a hybrid synth from Acustica, built on the same engine as its Alice-9 and designed "specifically for EDM and Melodic Techno". It is not a hardware emulation; the idea is mix-ready sounds through a fast, preset-led workflow with one central Morph control.

SCO oscillators: four sample-controlled oscillators with time-evolving waveforms and analog-style drift; the library uses 61 unique SCO waveforms.
Filters and modulation: a non-resonant high-pass and a resonant multimode filter, two ADSR envelopes and two LFOs with delay (per Synth Anatomy).
Morph control: one knob that shapes several core parameters at once, for quick performance changes.
Built-in effects: saturator, OTT-style dynamics, chorus, delay, reverb and EQ.
Presets: 127 curated presets, with a MIDI Preview that plays dedicated phrases so you can audition sounds before loading.
Two views: a Slim performance view and an Extended view with the full synthesis controls.
MPE and Alice-9: full MPE support; Nox owners also get an expansion pack that brings its sounds into Alice-9.

When to use it

Nox is the better pick when you want finished EDM and melodic techno leads, pads and plucks quickly, with a Morph knob to vary them, rather than building patches from scratch. Compared with Serum 2 and Vital, it offers much less open-ended sound design: there is no wavetable editor and the oscillators come from Acustica's fixed SCO set. Phase Plant and Pigments 7 give far more modular routing and engines. If you already own Alice-9, Nox adds new waveforms and a simpler interface but, by Synth Anatomy's account, the same feature set.

Best for: fast, preset-based leads, pads and plucks for melodic techno and EDM.
Genres: melodic techno, EDM and progressive house.
Look elsewhere if: you want deep sound design from scratch or a free option; Serum 2, Phase Plant or Vital give you far more control.

What producers say

Coverage so far is launch news rather than full reviews; the main reservation is its overlap with Alice-9.

Synth Anatomy said it sounds "great in the linked demo" and suits producers looking for ready-to-use but tweakable EDM sounds.
Criticisms: Synth Anatomy called it "a repackaged Alice-9 Synthesizer", with new waveforms and a new interface but the same features.
