What it does

Coffee is an Acustica channel strip and suite built around 1960s studio classics, which the developer describes as "inspired by the world of 'vintage' but re-engineered in a contemporary fashion". It comes as a full channel strip plus separate EQ, preamp and compressor plugins.

KVR lists version 2.3.5. A trial is available.

When to use it

Coffee is the pick for warm, glued tube compression with vintage EQ, without committing to one console emulation. Compared with Scheps Omni Channel and Native Channel Strip 2, its centre is a Vari-Mu style compressor with five modes rather than a console VCA compressor, so it leans towards smooth glue over SSL-style punch. It has more preamp choice than bx_console SSL 4000 E but no single desk layout to follow. It is also pricier and heavier on CPU than Native Channel Strip 2.
