Arctic is a free mix bus plugin from Acustica Audio that combines a compressor, a limiter and saturation in one simple window.

What it does
Arctic is a free Acustica Audio mix bus plugin that combines a compressor, a limiter and a saturator in one window. The developer calls it a "Frankenstein tool"; a morph slider in the centre moves the processing between its three characters.
- COMP: a bus compressor with a timing slider that sets how grabby or smooth the compression feels.
- LIM: a limiting mode with a clearly higher ratio for catching peaks and pushing level.
- SAT: a saturation stage that adds harmonics without heavy distortion.
- Centre panel: a side-chain high-pass filter, threshold and mix knob shared by the three processors.
- Gain and metering: input and output gain knobs on each side, with RMS meters and numeric readouts.
- HYPER engine: built on Acustica's HYPER technology, which mixes algorithmic processing with its sampled impulse responses, with oversampling on the compressor and saturator.
KVR lists version 2.3.5, and lists it as free. It was first released as a Christmas giveaway in December 2022.

When to use it
Arctic takes a simpler route than The Glue and SSL G-Master Buss Compressor, the familiar paid bus compressors, or TDR Kotelnikov, a detailed, clean compressor with a free edition: one threshold, one timing control and a morph slider instead of ratio, attack and release, plus limiting and saturation in the same plugin. That makes it quick for adding glue and colour to a bus, but it gives you less precise control than any of those. It is also a no-cost way to hear Acustica's sampled sound before buying its paid plugins.
- Best for: free all-in-one glue, peak control and light saturation on the mix bus or subgroups.
- Genres: any; Bedroom Producers Blog found the limiting suits energetic mixes.
- Look elsewhere if: you need ratio, attack and release controls; TDR Kotelnikov or The Glue give more control.
